The Global Diversity Board Game for International Relief and Development Organizations is a highly interactive training tool using a multiple-choice quiz format to explore facts and perceptions about global diversity.

It covers demographics, jobs, policies, and society as well as how to effectively manage in a multi-cultural workplace. This special adaptation for the international relief and development sector highlights the importance of understanding global diversity issues, and acts as a stepping stone towards building trust across differences.

The game can be utilized by humanitarian and development staff as an icebreaker for retreats, conferences and seminars, and to support and strengthen broader organizational diversity initiatives including learning events. For more details on how to use the Game, see the Facilitator’s Guide included in the package.

Version Development
The Game was developed by QED Consulting in partnership with the Emergency Capacity Building (ECB) Project. The ECB Project is a collaborative effort of the seven agencies of the Inter-agency Working Group on Emergency Capacity: CARE International, Catholic Relief Services, the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam GB, Save the Children, and World Vision International. These agencies and their partners are jointly addressing issues of staff capacity, accountability and impact measurement, risk reduction and the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in emergencies, with the goal of improving the speed, quality and effectiveness of the humanitarian community in saving the lives, safeguarding the livelihoods and protecting the rights of people affected by emergencies. For further information, please visit www.ecbproject.org or email info@ecbproject.org.

The Global Diversity Game for International Relief and Development Organizations was developed as part of a wider ECB pilot project focused on the issue of trust. ‘Building Trust in Diverse Teams: the Toolkit for Emergency Response’, including ten criteria for trust, a trust index for assessing levels of trust within teams and a set of simple and effective tools for trust building, is available now from Oxfam Publishing
